The largest and heaviest coin in the world is called Rai, or Yapese stone money, and it is found on the island of Yap in Micronesia. Some of these enormous limestone disks have a mass of over 4,000 pounds and a diameter of 12 feet. They are employed in ceremonies and cultural contexts as status and riches symbols. They are a distinctive feature of Yapese society and are still used for transactions despite their size.
